About Jon

Jon Hynes

Having started kayaking at 13 years old with Limerick Canoe club, 24 years Jon is still as enthusiastic as ever about his kayaking.

From the early days of paddling the Shannon in a cheap fibreglass kayak to leading groups in some of the world's top kayaking destinations, Jon has brought many people on some great adventures through kayaking.

In life before H2O, Jon worked in some of Irelands top adventure Centres. He cherishes his time spent at Cappanalea Outdoor Education Centre where he really cemented his future in the sport. Influential Sea Kayakers and river paddlers there helped him foster a love for the rivers, mountains and coastline of Ireland. These adventures also lead Jon to paddle for Ireland at World Championship level. Jon also rapidly began gathering Irish Canoe Union qualifications as he progressed and lead him to becoming one of Irelands most qualified Kayaking & Swift Water rescue Instructors.

Over the years Jon has run many successful Kayaking trips to the Alps, Himalayas, Zambezi, the Pyrenee's and all over Irelands rivers & coastline.

Jon set up H2O with Alayne with a goal of making a living from his adventure skills and sustaining time to pursue his own adventure goals.

In 2004 Jon set up Gtown Surf chool and since then it has grown to become Irish Surfing Association approved and deliver quality lessons and surfing experiences to many both young and old. Check out Gtown Surf School here Link.

In 2009 Jon is making a return to his younger years and has been training hard over the winter to return to competitive Mountain Bike racing. His Surfing and Kayaking will serve as useful and fun cross training!
