Over the years, experience has taught us that when people do a course in Sea Kayaking that they quite often struggle to progress in the sport as they have no format in which to paddle with a group safely. Thus we set up about forming a club based here in the Kinsale area whereby people can join and progress in safe surroundings.
The club has a calendar of trips which members can join at their leisure. The one criteria for joining the club is that all members must poses a valid Irish Canoe Union Level 2 Skills award. This ensures that all members work of a minimum standard of ability. You can gain this award by attending an "Introduction to Sea Kayaking" Course with us at H2O Sea Kayaking.
The Club has an annual membership fee and meets twice a month throughout the year. (2010 fee €40 plus €2 club fund contribution each trip). Even if you don't own your own kayak and gear yet, you can get started by renting it from H2O for a very nominal fee (€10 per trip). All members are encouraged to buy their own kayak and to progress on with leadership skills the longer they are in the club.
Alayne or another instructor leads the club trips for safety. The Club is registered with the governing body for Canoeing, the “Irish canoe Union” and so must operate with in their recommended guidelines.
The club members communicate through the private Ocean Voyagers Facebook page. Club trips are posted as events on this.
